AI News & Updates
📰 Here we go, this week’s Buzz in AI: LLMs, GenAI, and More!
🔍 OpenAI Challenges Google with SearchGPT
OpenAI introduces SearchGPT and take a shot across the bow to Google's search dominance. This challenge highlights the growing competition in AI-powered search, promising more intuitive results but raising concerns about accuracy, content creation, and the future of the internet ecosystem. I’m writing a deep dive into this later and how it could break the internet!
🤑 New Jersey's Bold AI Ambition
New Jersey is investing $500 million to transform itself from the Garden State to the Brainiac State. This ambitious bid aims to position New Jersey as a top hub and AI epicenter for artificial intelligence innovation, attracting tech talent and fostering cutting-edge research. We should try this in the valley for about 1% of the cost!
📲 JPMorgan Unveils AI Chatbot for Financial Insights
JPMorgan gets rid of ChatGPT and launches its own cutting-edge AI chatbot as part of its LLM suite, designed to provide real-time financial insights and solutions. This new tool empowers advisors with advanced capabilities, enhancing the firm's suite of wealth management services. If you have the same access to AI tools for wealth building as your financial advisors do, what’s your play?
🪧 SAG-AFTRA on Strike Over AI in Video Games
SAG-AFTRA is on strike, spotlighting AI's growing role in the video game industry. The union's concerns center on how AI technologies might affect job security and creative rights for their members. I wrote about the broadened ramifications of this fight in last week’s newsletter. This really should concern all of us!
📸 Meta's AI Imagine Me: Transforming Selfies Across Platforms
Meta's new AI tool, Imagine Me, is set to revolutionize selfies, making advanced editing and enhancements accessible across all platforms. This innovation promises to bring a new level of creativity and personalization to user-generated content. Authenticity vs creativity.
📚 Taylor & Francis AI Deal with Microsoft Raises Academic Concerns
Taylor & Francis, a prominent academic publisher, has partnered with Microsoft to grant access to its extensive research content for AI development. This $10 million deal aims to enhance the relevance and performance of AI systems but has sparked concerns among scholars about research integrity and the rights of authors, highlighting the need for transparency and fairness in such agreements. Another worrying development!
"I don't want AI-powered search, I want search that filters out AI bullsh*t."
LOCAL STUFF - PALM SPRINGS COACHELLA
Good Citizens & AI as a Force for Good
👒 AI is great at sifting through mountains of data and delivering it with a conversational flair. That's why we’re all hooked on its ease and versatility. But let’s not forget, generative AI tools like ChatGPT, ClaudeAI, Jasper, Gemini, Mistral and countless others can sometimes conjure up pure nonsense—what the pros call “hallucinations.” And when it comes to crucial info like local news, business, financials, community updates et al we need to be extra cautious.
Just a reminder to be a good citizen and encourage Responsible AI and Ethical AI when it comes to using GenAI. ✌🏼
🤔 Thinking Out Loud
SearchGPT is a pretty big deal. I’m not sure if it’ll disrupt Google this year, but I know as users we’re slowly shifting towards AI answers over search and that’s troubling. Let me know if you’re finding yourself using Google or Bing or DuckDuckGo less.
The SAG-AFTRA fight with publishers is a movie we’ve seen before and we know how it ends. Again, this is troubling. As creators we’ll be at the mercy of the AI platforms and the big tech guys once again. Same goes for giving up our research papers to the big corps to train their LLMs. This is a crazy hamster wheel!
Okay, that’s it for this week. Catch my daily prompts at various times throughout the week and check out the website for more human-curated content, community and commerce opportunities (merch, swag, digitals).
Remember, there is so much happening with AI and what is considered to be the next wave of the internet, I just don’t want us, as in Palm Springs Coachella, to fall behind.
So I’ll continue having the local conversations with the entrepreneurs and founders experimenting with AI and bring them to you every week — feel free to share this newsletter with others in your network and if there’s somebody you know I should interview that’s utilizing GenAI, please connect us.
